The story behind the shot – A Hare in the Heather
It was a real stroke of luck that the hare was so inquisitive but if you sit quiet and still for long enough the amount of wildlife that comes to you can be remarkable.
I needed a fast shutter speed (obvious really; if I were Dr Doolittle it may have been different!) and a wide aperture to concentrate the attention on the hare and create depth to the picture by throwing both the foreground and background out of focus.
Camera settings were 400 ISO, f5.6 at 1/1000 second.
